The duo was also charged with driving a motor vehicle with a cancelled registration and which also did not have a number plate. They were also accompanied in their poaching adventure by the GCC suspect's seven-year-old son, who was later handed over to his family, said Colonel Ojail Al Junaibi, Director of the Western Region Police Directorate, Abu Dhabi Police. He warned against endangering children's lives, and practicing the hobby of hunting without a permit, which is banned and a punishable offence. According to Colonel Junaibi the incident took place on June 11 this year, when a police patrol got suspicious about a pickup vehicle moving at night without a number plate, and asked its driver to pull over near the Ghayathi Industrial Area. A preliminary check up revealed that a dead deer was lying in the rear cargo area of the pick-up, in an open box along with a fire arm and ammunition inside. Police also discovered a boy accompanying his father in the hunting journey, he noted, adding that, the motor vehicle and the incriminating tools were seized. The GCC suspect, identified as M.A., 38, confessed to having shot the deer, along with the Asian suspect, identified as A.S., 25, with a rife while they were driving passed the fence of the wildlife sanctuary. He further said, according to Col Junaibi, the pair had damaged and cut the fence with a sharp tool, and sneaked through the damaged fence inside the protectorate, and pulled out the dead deer, loaded it on to the rear side of the vehicle after slitting its throat to ensure it was dead. Col Junaibi said the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Police will continue in confronting and deterring any violation on the wildlife sanctuary and those who kill the rare and endangered animals by resorting to poaching and illegal hunting in its different forms.
