(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Â A 25-year-old man had his 15-year prison term reduced to one year after the Court of First Instance cleared him of the charges of kidnapping and raping a married woman he wanted to marry.
The court had held a retrial 
and gave the Emirati defendant the one-year jail sentence on an 
assault charge. According to the original case, the jobless man kidnapped a compatriot woman aged 30 years from Dubai and raped her in a hotel room in Al Ain.
He allegedly forced her into travelling in his car after he threatened to kill her with a knife. The complainant, an employee, told the prosecutor that the defendant had proposed to her but she turned him down. On December 11, 2011, she claimed the defendant kidnapped her from outside a school in Al Hamriya.
He snatched her phone and drove very fast on the Dubai-Al Ain Road. During the journey, he slapped and punched her as 
she was crying.
He reached Al Ain where he stopped at a hotel. His friends were there and had booked a room for him where he allegedly raped her.
On the way back, she sped away in his car when he stopped and stepped out at a petrol station to buy water.
She called her husband with a motorist's mobile phone and then headed back to her sister's house 
in Dubai. She filed a complaint 
at Al Muraqqabat police station.
The complainant's sister, a 33-year-old stateless, said the defendant had proposed to her sister months before the incident but was turned down.
The complainant's husband said that he went to pick up his wife that day but she had already headed back to Dubai. He quoted his 
wife as saying that the defendant kidnapped her to force him to divorce her.
