UAE- New Lenovo phones unveiled

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  Lenovo has unveiled its smartphone line-up for the UAE and Saudi Arabia markets in Dubai on Monday, revving up its brand position in the Middle East on the heels of strong performances globally and its home market in China. The technology giant, with headquarters in Beijing and North Carolina, is aiming to ride the momentum of its PC business; worldwide - according to IDC figures - Lenovo is the No. 2 PC vendor worldwide and is third in the so-called PC+ segment, comprised of PCs, tablets and smartphones. "We are very well-prepared to play a big role in the [smartphone] market," Oliver Ebel, vice-president and general manager of Lenovo MEA, told the Press conference, which also welcomed Saudi Arabian media. Leading the new line-up is the flagship K900, which Ebel described as having the "best and greatest" technology and is the highest-range among the line-up. The P780, on the other hand, is aimed at professionals and businesspeople and boasts of a 43-hour talk time. The S820 and S920 target those who want to be stylish and socially-connected, while the A390 and A706 are Lenovo's entry-level devices for those who want full smartphone functionalities at reasonable costs. Except for the K900, all models have dual-SIM capabilities. Gianfranco Lanci, president for Emea and senior vice-president of the Lenovo Group, who talked about the company's strategy at the event, said that the launch was just the beginning. "You will see a lot of new things coming from us," he said. Lenovo ascended to the No. 2 spot in China's smartphone market after only 18 months from the release of its mobiles and, in fiscal year 2013-14, it aims to ship 50 million smartphones worldwide. IDC sees smartphone shipments across the world to hit 958.8 million in 2013, a 32.7 per cent year-on-year growth; it is projected to cross 1.5 billion by 2017. Lenovo, Ebel said, eyes to become No. 1 in China within two years while spreading its footprint during the first wave of its smartphone launch in Russia, India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and other Asian countries. And for wave two, which is the Emea region, Ebel said that there were no better markets to start this off than the UAE and Saudi Arabia, countries that have a very high smartphone penetration and technology-oriented populations. Lenovo's new smartphones will be available this week.
