UAE's human rights situation very positive: EU panel

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  A European Commission delegation has been briefed on the efforts of the Emirates Association for Human Rights at the association's headquarters in Al Rashidiya in spreading awareness of the culture of human rights among people. Mohammed Hussein Al Hammadi, deputy chairman of the association, stated that what distinguishes the UAE from other countries is the deep bond between its government and the people as well as its keenness to meet their needs and give them their lawful rights, removing any obstacles faced by its community. He urged all authorities and entities issuing human rights reports relating to the UAE to be flexible, and urged them to verify the accuracy of the information they receive, while keeping in mind the fact that the UAE enjoys a well-respected reputation that surpasses many countries around the world in the field of human rights. Al Hammadi met the delegation which included Adam Kolach, ambassador of the European Commission, the head of the EU mission to Saudi Arabia, and the advisor to the European Commission in Saudi Arabia. For his part, ambassador Kolach praised the UAE's efforts in the protection of human rights, the prosperity and satisfaction for nationals and residents of the UAE, describing the human rights situation as "very positive". The delegation was also briefed upon the association's activities and programmes and its active role in community service.
