Kuwait- Body slams actions taken to round up illegal expats

(MENAFN- Arab Times)   The Kuwaiti Progressive Movement (KPM) has outrightly rejected the abusive actions allegedly taken by the security officers against the expatriates amid the massive security checking in line with the country's bid to track down all criminals and those who violate its laws, reports Alam Al-Youm daily quoting General Coordinator of the movement Dari Al-Rajeeb. Claiming the security officers have been taking advantage of the weak legal protection system for expatriates, Al-Rajeeb said on behalf of the group, "We are against the security officers' exploitation of the weakness of the legal protection system for expatriates, some of whom are being punished without giving them a chance to defend themselves; considering the penalties are as harsh as deportation only a few hours after the arrest. "We have seen how the officers abuse the rights of expatriates by defaming them in such a way that they are accused of committing crimes without fair trial. Expatriates have human and labor rights, particularly the right to earn a living and to have a good life wherever they are. We defend the expatriates according to the principles of democracy which states everyone is fair in the eyes of the law," Al-Rajeeb concluded. Mobile groceries shut: In their continuing campaign against law violators, officers from Jahra Security Directorate headed by Major General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah coordinated with the municipality officials and apprehended 10 individuals who operated mobile groceries, and confiscated a large quantity of vegetables they were selling. Meanwhile, securitymen from Ahmadi Directorate led by Director of Security Brigadier Matouq Al-Aslawi apprehended 20 individuals who were without identity cards. They also removed violating tents and unused tires from the roadsides, in addition to mobile groceries. The General Security Department confirmed the sector will coordinate with Kuwait Municipality to keep the area clean. It also appealed to Kuwaiti citizens to coordinate with the securitymen to maintain security and safety across the nation. Hawally crackdown: The Hawally Security Directorate continued Sunday its campaign against those who violated the laws of Kuwait, including those involved in various crimes and the marginal expatriate workers. In compliance with the instructions of Head of the directorate Brigadier Ghloom Habib, a team of officers carried out the campaign in different areas throughout the governorate. This led to the arrest of seven persons, including three Kuwaitis wanted by law for their involvement in various crimes; an expatriate woman who escaped from her sponsor; two foreigners with expired visas; five without identification documents, three marginal workers and one accused of forgery. The officers also issued 20 traffic citations and recovered two stolen vehicles during the campaign. Meanwhile, Jahra securitymen conducted another surprise inspection campaign in the governorate, during which two cross-dressers were arrested; as well as 18 persons without identification documents, eight marginal workers, four with expired residence permits, 10 hawkers, 12 who violated the traffic law, four reckless drivers, 14 who were loitering around in a suspicious manner, and two under the influence of alcohol. The campaign also resulted in the issuance of traffic citations and recovery of three stolen vehicles.
