UAE- Fugitive claims friend killed wife

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  A husband who fled the UAE after allegedly killing his wife, before returning to the country to face court, has told the Dubai Police it was, in fact, his friend who killed his wife. Director of the Dubai Police's General Department of Criminal Investigation, Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri said that the Dubai Police extradited the man, who allegedly killed his wife by strangling her with the help of his Pakistani friend, before dumping her body and fleeing to India. During police interrogation, the Indian national accused his friend of killing his wife B.A., and denied allegations that he killed her for money. He further claimed that his wife did not like the relationship between him and his Pakistani friend, which is what triggered the murder. He said him and the Pakistani national used to regularly drink alcohol together and the victim used to tell her husband that the friend would ruin his life. He said he used to tell his friend about his wife's complaints, which made him dislike her, then he claimed that the Pakistani managed to convince him to get rid of her which is when they set about the plan to kill her. Maj-Gen Al Mansouri said that the Indian suspect A.G. handed himself over following a negotiation with the Dubai Police under the supervision of the Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police Lt-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim. A Dubai Police official managed to persuade him to return to the UAE to face a fair trial and told him that handing himself over may reduce his penalty. The suspect claimed he left the country in a panic in order to hide from his wife's family, especially as she had a relative working in the Ministry of Interior who issued an arrest warrant to track him down. After buying a ticket for the suspect and arranging his visa, the Dubai Police officials met the suspect at the Dubai International Airport and he was transported to the General Department of Criminal Investigation. On March 28, the day of the murder, the husband said he let the Pakistnai man into his home while his wife was sleeping. He then claimed that his friend took a robe, sat on her and strangled her. After the murder, they both wrapped her in a bed sheet and placed her in a black plastic bag, before taking her in the car and dumping her by the side of the road. The Dubai Police discovered the woman's body after a worker spotted a large bag along the Dubai-Al Ain road side. She was allegedly beaten and strangled to death. Upon discovering the body, the police managed to identify the victim, despite a lack of evidence, and after talking to her father, they became aware that the couple often had disputes with one another. After visiting the husband's workplace, the police learnt that he had travelled back to his home country on an emergency visit. After the suspect's father was informed of the murder, he said that he suspected a Pakistani man, the friend of his son, had aided in the crime. The police managed to identify the second suspect before he had time to flee the country, and upon his arrest he confessed to the crime. During police interrogation the Pakisani alleged that the husband killed his wife and he just helped dump the body.
