UAE- Man drowns off UAQ beach

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  A 54-year-old Egyptian drowned at Umm Al Quwain, as his children played on the beach. According to a police source, the victim, identified as M.M., was in the company of his children on Saturday morning at about 7.30am. "The man let his kids play on the sand and went swimming alone. Mostly, the strong waves pulled him down deep," said the source. The UAQ central Operations Room, alerted of the accident, dispatched rescue teams and police patrols to the scene. "The man was already dead, and his body was shifted to the morgue of the hospital for his relatives to collect and bury him," said the police source. He added that some of the beachgoers tried to rescue the drowning man, but failed and even risked death themselves when the high waves dragged them, too. "All beach-goers are banned from swimming at areas known for high waves. They do need to wear life jackets all the times," he said. "Also, the public should not interfere in such cases unless they are qualified not only for swimming but also for rescuing skills; otherwise, they may (also drown)," he added.
