(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  Fourteen of the brightest young minds from across the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) will assemble in Dubai on June 15 to participate in the coveted destination-marketing internship of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS). The students, who have been selected for the 18th edition of this annual internship programme are: Ahmed Alerwi (King Saud University, Saudi Arabia), Rabaa Al Hajri (Australian College of Kuwait, Kuwait), Sarah Al Ashban (Royal University for Women, Bahrain), Safa Al Badei (Muscat College, Oman), Dana Al Malki (Stenden University, Qatar), Touline Bassam Alish (Jordan University, Jordan), Tatiana Oneissy (Lebanese American University, Lebanon), Christie Rizkallah (Misr International University, Egypt), Oussama Errachidy (Al Akhawayn University, Morocco), Alyaa Osman (Ahfad University for Women, Sudan), Taha Faris (The American University of Iraq, Iraq), Maram Al Ali (Birzeit University, Palestine), Mohammed Al Hussaini (University Of Kalamoon, Syria) and the home country winner Khaled Obaid Al Nuaimi (The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, UAE). The award-winning destination marketing internship, which has been a successful component of DSS since 2006, welcomes its largest-ever group of winners from 14 markets in 2013, including first-time participants from Iraq and Sudan. Laila Suhail, CEO of Dubai Festival and Retail Establishment (DFRE) said: "We are very pleased with the overwhelming response that we have received from all the 80 universities that were invited to participate in this year's edition of the programme. We have had the privilege of receiving quite a large and diversified range of submissions from the brightest and most creative students from different Arab countries, out of which we had to choose the best 14, and it wasn't an easy task. We are very excited about this year's group of winners, especially with the UAE student, Khaled Obaid Al Nuaimi from The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, who submitted a well-constructed essay which revealed an astute understanding of the skills required to successfully market an event such as DSS in today's multimedia world. We are sure that he will be a great host for his fellow students during the two week programme". The winners will each receive an all-expense-paid trip to Dubai, inclusive of return flights and a two-week stay at The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, one of the world's leading hospitality business management schools, managed by Jumeirah Group, the global luxury hospitality company and a member of Dubai Holding. Suhail said that the winners will work closely with the marketing team responsible for successfully staging DSS, attend workshops, take part in visits to key DSS events and tourism landmarks and meet leading players responsible for building the Destination Dubai brand. Itineraries have in the past included winner interactions with Dubai-based entities that have helped build the city's world-class tourism offering and global brand cachet, such as Emirates, Emaar Retail, MBC Group, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Economic Department and Dubai Cares. Similarly, this year's winners can look forward to an impressive agenda of key visits. Many of the interns, who will be making their maiden visit to Dubai, will also get the opportunity to experience the city's iconic tourism landmarks such as Burj Khalifa, Dubai Metro, Ski Dubai, Wild Wadi and lots more. The internship will offer students the opportunity to get hands-on experience working alongside the DSS team in a packed agenda of activities that will both enhance their theoretical understanding of their chosen field of study as well as its practical application, while building a valuable network of potential future employers and corporate mentors.
