Tunisia celebrates National Day in Saudi Kingdom

(MENAFN- Arab News) The consulate of Tunisia celebrated the 57th anniversary of the birth of the Republic of Tunisia on Saturday at Crowne Plaza Hotel Jeddah. Fathi Neffati, the Tunisian consul general, and his spouse Amal Fathi welcomed Ambassador Mohammed Ahmed Al-Tayeb, director general at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Makkah region, officials from Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dignitaries, diplomats, guest and friends to celebrate the country's National Day. Neffati said it is a proud moment for Tunisian people to celebrate their freedom, which they won after more than 70 years of colonial rule. "The 20th of March is an unforgettable day for Tunisian people, as Tunisia signed the treaty of its independence in 1956," he said. "Today we also remember the revolution that started on Jan. 14, 2011, as this marked an extension of our struggle for independence and dignity." The world would see Tunisia firmly on the path of democratic transition, especially after granting the confidence to the National Constituent Assembly, said the envoy. He felt confident the new government would lead the country on the path of new developments. He also praised the relationship between Tunisia and the Kingdom, which is based on mutual trust and understanding for the unity of the Arab and Islamic nation. Ambassador Al-Tayeb said the celebration of the Tunisian national day is not only important for the people of Tunisia but also important for the Muslim world. "Saudi Arabia has always had excellent relations with Tunisia and its people. Tunisia is an important part of the Arabic and Islamic councils. We are aware of the struggle of the people of Tunisia and Egypt and changes, which occurred in the countries. We always support their struggle for a better future and hope the new governments will walk on the path of Arab brotherhood and Islamic rules, keeping a strong relationship with the Kingdom," he said.
